Ember was drawing in the kitchen one day and was telling my what she was drawing. She said, "This is my flower compilation." Don't ask me where she learned the word compilation nor how she managed to use it properly, but somehow she did.

I was going to go in the other room to do something when she turned to me and said, "You stay in here then I can see a beautiful, big thing." Oh, I love being a beautiful, big thing.

I overheard her playing with her toys one day. "I am the evil king of the silo. Welcome to my kingdom." (Evil laugh).

"When I am a mom I will have 2 sisters (daughters) and 3 boys."

"James (a friend of hers) and I might get married and then we will get to kiss on the lips."(Why is she thinking of this already?)

"Dragons are forever, like families."

"Do you like to go fast or cook? (before I had time to respond she continued) I like to go fast so you can cook. Don't go fast cause you have to cook."

Josh was giving me a hug one day when Ember asked "Can I be the cheese of that sandwich." Of coarse she could.

"Let's play space animals. (In a very urgent voice) We've got to hurry. There is a lot to do before space starts."

Ember, "I don't like the sun."
Mom, "Why not?"
Ember, "Because the night time is the right time."

Ember has been playing Peter Pan and Hook for probably 3 months now and Josh is pretty tired of it.

Ember, "Daddy, you will be Hook."

Dad, "I want to be daddy for a little bit."

Ember, "That sounds weird."

Ember, "I don't know what I want to be when I have a job." (she sounded very concerned that she didn't know this yet-almost panicked).

Mom, "I thought you wanted to be a mom?" (She has said she wants to be a mom many times before of her own accord).

Ember, "Yes, but after that. Maybe I will be a princess."

Mom, "That's a good job choice."

Ember, "Or maybe I will be a mermaid."

Our Cinderella

I had a long list of really funny Emberisms on my phone but they got deleted by a little girl at some point so this list is going to be pretty short.
She came out of bed one night and came into the kitchen where I was doing dishes and announced, "I can't sleep, I haven't learned to kiss long enough."
"I put my armpits on top of my head." Sounds wonderful.
"Heavenly Father made ice cream good for our bodies so we could eat it."
"I am going to have a sister and I will name her Blossom."
"I heard Heavenly Father's voice. He said I should save some stickers for you."

Playing catch with Daddy

I had to go to the bank and get a wire transfer and she sat down in the chair next to me and proceeded to chat to the banker. She told him all about her morning and asked him what he was doing and why he was doing it. She then proceeded to tell him that she knew some songs and sang the first article of faith to him at her normal volume. He was trying not to burst out in laughter as was everyone else at the bank. She is such a ray of sunshine.
Grandma took her on the plane yesterday and apparently the last half hour of the flight she was singing the articles of faith at the top of her lungs for everyone to hear (she loves singing and we will often listen to the children's hymns in the car). When they stood up to get off she turned around to the people behind her in the plane and announced in her best sing-songy voice, "Goodbye. I am going to my Grandma's house. Goodbye." Apparently they all were laughing at her silly antics.

Chillin' at Target

Now the Steeleism:
Steele only knows a few words so far so I am
trying to teach him more by repeating them over and over. He was
holding a monkey so I said, "Monkey". He responded by saying, "Dada."
Coincidence? I think not.

Ember still had her baby hair and I ended up cutting about 5 inches off which resulted in the loss of all her curls. I had been noticing her hair was getting harder to scrunch but I thought it was because there was so much weight. Her hair is now slightly wavy but all her ringlets are gone. Sad day. She was so excited to get her hair cut and seems to like it shorter. It is much easier to comb through and do too. Our Little Steele turned 1 year old on Friday and he had a great day. We spent the morning at home then he went to the doctor and get a checkup and shots (lucky boy). He is a pretty small guy so far. He is 22 lbs 4 oz (43%) and 29 inches (26%). We have started to call him small fry lately because he is so small, but what he lacks in stature, he makes up for in determination.

After the doctor, we went to the park for awhile and he has decided that climbing up slides is the best thing in the world. He could have stayed there all day and he did eventually make it all the way to the top. Determined kid.

We then had a few friends over for dinner, cake, and ice cream. He was a little apprehensive about the cake at first, but in the end he loved it.

He has discovered that there is water in the toilet and he has decided
his life's mission is to get into that water. If ever a bathroom door is
left open he is off to it. As he is crawling in that direction he will
start saying "No No" over and over. It is funny to watch. He can say a few words but we may be the only people who understand them:
Ball
Mama
Dada
Nana (banana)
No No
Na Na (Night Night (This sounds about the same as No No)
He has decided that he is all about yucky things. I am constantly pulling him out of the garbage can, the toilet, pulling dirty things out of his mouth (including someone's used bandaid he found outside-yuck). He loves to be outside putting leaves or rocks or dirt in his mouth. He loves to climb although luckily he is too short to get anywhere too high.
He hasn't started walking yet but I think it is only for lack of trying. He can stand for about a full minute without holding on to anything and can bend down and pick something up that he dropped. He loves balls and is actually better at throwing them then Ember is (sad, I know, she throws like a girl-and not a very athletic one). We love our little boy and are so lucky to have him. Happy birthday Steele.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-31407866783993903792013-03-10T20:18:00.002-07:002013-03-10T20:18:45.232-07:0011 Months

These two pictures are pretty descriptive of life in our house right now. Steele is all over and into everything. He is Curious and Determined, which is a deadly combination. He doesn't want to take no for an answer. Today Josh took him away from something three times and he would get out of Josh's hands and crawl right back to it. We finally just shut the door to that room. Tears ensued. Another thing about Steele-if he doesn't get what he wants and especially if a door gets closed, it is the end of the world and he cries like the baby he is. He is usually a pretty quiet guy, until you get somewhere where it is supposed to be quiet, then he lets it all come out. Today during church he decided to start singing the hymn with everyone, which was fine, until the song was over and he was still singing at the top of his lungs. He has discovered the joy of emptying drawers and can pull open ever drawer in the house I think-yes, even the heavy drawer under the oven where pots and pans are, he can even get in there. Sigh. He is a turkey.
He loves the bath and will crawl from anywhere in the house if he hears the water going. Ember has decided that she wants to take showers now so we usually put her in the shower and then when she is done, Steele comes in and they both play in the bath. Josh will do everything in the world to block him or try to hold him back but he claws his way to the bathroom the second Ember gets the water on. I told you he was determined.
Another thing about him is that he has no fear whatsoever. He will lean out of your arms as fast as he can when he decides it is time to get down. There have been near drops from our arms to the floor. He has come very close to climbing straight off our bed too. I hope he lives to adulthood.
He loves to dance in our arms. We will turn on music and dance around the living room almost every day and sometimes more than that and I think it is the highlight of his and Ember's day. They both have a great time.
Steele has recently learned to clap and he thinks it is so fun. He just smiles and smiles when we get him to do it. He also is cruising pretty well and sometimes will stand for up to 10 seconds by himself. He loves to walk holding onto your fingers but not very far. I think he gets bored with it. Lately he has been bouncing himself off things and just bouncing on his legs. He has far too much energy.
He can say Mama but we aren't quite sure if he is saying it to me and tries to say Ball but that is about the extent of his vocabulary. I am pretty sure he is starting to understand things though. He will look for Ember when I say her name and you can tell that he understands when we say other things too.
Tonight at bed time he was very tired, I was reading a book to him that had pictures of different objects and the word under them. We got to the picture of a ball and he said "BA" then he tried to reach for the ball, when he realized that he couldn't grab it he started crying as loud as he does when we close a door. I decided that was the end of the book and he went to bed immediately.
Up until about 2 weeks ago, Steele was waking up about 4 times a night. He was a difficult one. We finally had to just let him cry it out all night. He has improved, but, even now, he will wake up once a night. Hopefully this phase will end soon.
He is a fun boy and we love him. Ember has been especially fond of him lately and will often give him a hug without any prompt from us. Sometimes her hugs are closer to tackles, but at least she loves him. He can't get enough of her either. Whenever she walks into the room he lights up and watches her every move. It is so fun to see.
Steele hit the 10 month mark and he has turned into quite the trouble maker. He is a speedy little crawler and is into everything. He loves to play with the colanders, the blinds, and anything his sister is playing with. He loves balls and Legos too and I will sometimes catch him playing alone with Ember's train set. He pulls himself up to standing on everything and I have seen him stand without holding on to anything for a second or two. He is a very good eater but he seems to like vegetables and grains more than fruits although I introduced grapes recently and they were a big hit. He likes to feed himself more than having my help so I try to give him foods he can put in his mouth or just deal with the mess he makes when he tries to feed himself the less toddler friendly fare. He loves to be held but will instantly turn around to see what is going on around him. He is interested in everything and always wants to touch it and hold it but after about 10 seconds he is done and ready to move on to the next thing. He won't hold still for very long either. He and Ember have started butting heads. She often starts screaming NO the instant he so much as looks in her direction. It is a struggle because she does need to learn how to share but I also want her to not share certain things with him so we are still working on that. She has been a little bossy with him but does love him and often will give him a hug on her own. I hope they will be good friends as they get older. Steele turned 9 months old on Saturday and Josh and I both decided that we wanted to eat him that day- not in the he is so cute that you could just eat him up way, in the I can't handle another minute of listening to this whiny kid kind of way. Granted he (and the rest of the family) had the flu for the week prior which ended in a nasty sort of cough with a congested head so I am positive he was miserable and just wanted someone to make him feel better. It was not a fun day because we were all feeling about as miserable as he was and no one wanted to hear about how miserable anyone else was. But we did survive and I am happy to report that no children were maimed in any way and everyone is feeling significantly better.
So, on to the 9 month milestones. Steele finally learned to crawl, on Christmas morning, no less. He finally figured out how to do more then plop on his face and he is loving it. He follows us from room to room and gets a big goofy grin on his face when he sees us again. He is still pretty methodical (aka slow) and hasn't really started getting into anything yet so he is just at the cute stage of crawling. He has started trying to take whatever Ember is playing with though and she doesn't like it one bit. We have been talking about sharing and also about taking your toys to a place were he can't reach if it is something that isn't meant to be shared. It is going to be a learning process-probably for the rest of their childhood.

Steele went from just being able to crawl to being able to cruise so fast. He will pull himself to standing on the toy box and can take a few steps to get any toys he wants. It was so quick. He is babbling quite a bit now and will say Mama all the time. It doesn't really mean me so we aren't counting it yet, but he seems to like that sound more than any other (he IS a momma's boy). We haven't heard anything that resembles Dada yet. He loves to play with balls and hard plastic toys. It is interesting to see the difference between toys that Ember loved and toys that Steele loves. Toys that she wouldn't even look at are some of his favorites and vice-verse. I wonder if it is boy vs. girl or if it is just the difference of personality. He is definitely a cutie and we love having him around!Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-28149886029096287242012-12-10T19:47:00.002-08:002012-12-10T19:48:13.143-08:00Visit with SantaThe Jolly Old Elf visited our ward Christmas party this year and so the kiddos made their yearly request. Ember's conversation with the man in red went something like this.
Santa: What would you like for Christmas?
Ember: Presents.
Santa: What would you like in your presents?
Ember: Um, just red presents.
You can't argue with that. I did finally get it out of her that she wants big puzzles. That is better than the Barney dinosaur she wanted about a month ago. We will see what he brings. Steele didn't much feel like talking this year. Maybe next time...

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-44903648895694895142012-12-10T19:41:00.000-08:002012-12-10T19:42:38.883-08:008 MonthsSteele turned 8 months old last week and he is as cute as a button. He has lately taken to getting up on his hands and knees and rocking back and forth but has yet to master any forward motion. He is getting good at going backwards and we often find him on the opposite side of the room from where we set him. He has developed quite the sense of humor and loves to laugh. He thinks his sister is absolutely hilarious. If she comes into the room when I am putting Steele down for a nap he will watch every step she takes and will often burst into uncontrollable laughter. It is cute to see how much he loves her. We are reaching the point where he is more able to get at toys and Ember doesn't love the idea of sharing. It makes me nervous about how it will be once he actually can crawl. He has his two bottom teeth and his top ones have looked like they are about to burst through at any moment for awhile now, but, alas, no dice. He is getting so that anything that is within arms reach he will grab and hang onto, this includes hair, skin, glasses, blinds, dishes full of hot food, toys, and all other grab-able objects. He can be a handful but he is really a sweet boy who loves to be held and to see the world around him. We love him.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-84578411670390484752012-12-04T19:44:00.000-08:002012-12-04T19:44:06.432-08:00Christmas Card Out-takesSo, I had high hopes for sending out Christmas cards this year but as of now I have pretty much decided that I am much too lazy/cheap this year. Steele reached the 7 month mark today and is still as cute as a button.
He still has very little interest in crawling but does like to be on his
tummy quite a bit more now. He can pivot with the best of them and will
try to get toys as long as they are in arms reach. He can roll over but
doesn't really like to very much. He got his first tooth and is
probably going to get another one (or three) soon. He was pretty
irritable with teething: whining most of the day and waking up several
times at night. If you look close, you can see his pearly white in this one.

He is loving his solids lately. He loves everything I give him and just laps it right up. He is moving on to fairly thick foods pretty well and rarely has a problem mashing most things in his gums. He loves to eat.

He is starting to complain when you take things away from him and has toys that he likes and those he doesn't. Some of his favorites are Ember's bead necklaces from her dress-ups. He loves to chew on those. He also loves his toy pianos, his jumper, fabric books, and some stuffed and plastic animals. He is our cute little man and we love having him in our home.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-52305181869767026352012-11-05T11:08:00.002-08:002012-11-05T11:08:25.463-08:00Happy HauntingThis was the first year that Ember really understand what Halloween was about and it was a lot of fun to see her face light up with excitement. She decided that she wanted to be Thomas the train for Halloween and she couldn't have been happier with her costume. I wanted her to choose a costume that was a little more girly but as she reminds me, "I am NOT a princess". So I didn't force it on her. I did have her dress up in a different costume for dance class since I can't imagine her trying to do ballet in her Thomas costume.
Steele was hard to convince, but I did finally win in the end. He was
Sully from Monsters Inc. and was happy to chew on his monster hands and
grab at his monster feet. We had a good time trick-or-treating. Ember is
not a sugar girl, which I am so glad about. She will only eat two or
three pieces of candy a day and then she is done. It is great. Anyway,
here are the pictures.
He is growing so much. He can pivot around in circles on his belly and sits up nice and tall by himself but hasn't figured out how to move forward. He hates laying down and will lift his head the entire time I am changing his diaper. He is very ticklish and will give a chuckle almost every time I dress him. He doesn't have a very loud laugh, but he does laugh often. It is almost as if he is laughing so hard he doesn't make a noise. I think he must be teething since he is drooling like a faucet and is extra fussy. Even extra fussy though, he is still an easy kid. Ember came running into the room today yelling, "Mommy, he's crawling". Steele was laying on his belly pivoting and Ember was sure he was crawling. She was beaming with pride. He is a lucky boy to have an older sister who loves him so much. He adores her too. He watches her and wants to do what she is doing. She can usually get him to laugh if she is laughing. They are so fun together. <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-78737011713999267412012-10-02T20:30:00.000-07:002012-10-02T20:30:54.513-07:003 Years OldEmber turned three last month and was so excited about it. Her animals have been having birthdays about every day for the month before and the two weeks since. Since Josh had to work, Ember, Steele, and I went to the zoo for the day. We had a lot of fun seeing all the animals and even got to ride the train. She loves the zoo but absolutely adores trains! That evening when Josh got home from work we had dinner then opened presents and had cake and ice cream. The cake was kind of a flop. I was trying to make a Percy the train cake, but I didn't end up having the time I wanted to do it, so Ember helped me decorate it. It was a fun day and she is so excited to be 3 years old.
The real birthday party was a few weeks ago, when we visited the happiest place on earth! We went with some of my family and my brother-in-law's family and almost never saw any of them. Not that we weren't looking or were trying to avoid them, but it just didn't work out that way. Ember had the time of her life and LOVED all the characters, especially Minnie Mouse. I think there were tears when she met her. It was the highlight of the trip and by far made it worth every penny. She was a little afraid of Captain Hook but not until after she met him, then she wanted to make sure that he didn't come near her. She loved seeing Mater and Nemo and meeting Goofy, Donald Duck, and Mickey Mouse. Her favorite rides were Pirates of the Caribbean (she wasn't afraid at all and sand a pirates life for me all the way home), the tractors in Cars Land, the caterpillar and the boxes in Bugs Land, and the roller coaster in Toon Town.
He is getting so big and developing so fast. He has rolled over from his back to his stomach once but that was two weeks ago and he doesn't really show signs of wanting to do it again. He can sort of wiggle to move a little on his belly and often turns around or moves forward a little but it isn't really intentional yet and he probably won't crawl for awhile yet. He is a wonderful baby most of the time although he does like to be held quite a bit. Luckily I have time for that right now. He is grabbing for toys regularly and anything else that is within arms reach including Ember's hair. We gave him his first rice cereal the other day and he seemed to do pretty well with eating it. He will swallow some of it which is all I expect for now. His hair seems to be thinning some and his eyes look like they are going to stay blue. We think he sure is cute. <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-23994995120822920972012-08-13T13:15:00.001-07:002012-08-22T11:52:57.056-07:00EmberismsJosh asked Ember if she was a mimic and she replied, "No, I am not a cake".
Ember loves to ask me to sing songs about anything and everything. One of her favorite is the Ember song to the tune of BINGO.
"There was a mom who had a girl and Ember was her name-o. EMBER, EMBER, EMBER, and Ember was her name-o".
I was Measuring Ember one day and told her, "You are 3 feet tall" Ember replied, "I don't have 3 feet. I have two feet."
While I was sitting at the piano she said, "Mommy move over so I can get in the way."
"Welcome to the bedroom. I am taking care of you."
Josh refers to Steele's wet toots as sloppy joes.
Ember told me one day "I am not allowed to make mistakes." I hope she doesn't really know what she is saying.
Ember wanted me to get out of bed one morning. She asked, "Do you want to get off your bed and stand up on the carpet with me?"
(while putting a puppet on her hand) "I am putting my hand up your bum."
"I want to go to the pool with the moving water" (AKA the beach)
"The little Kleenex is walking and chewing on a booger."
One day I walked from the kitchen to the bedroom and Ember came running after me crying "You are too far away." I think she is going through a clingy stage because for awhile she wouldn't let me leave her sight.
"Please don't be a family. No, don't be a family."
"I am not laughing, I am chuckling." <fake laughing>
And for the best one:
Ember was under the covers on our bed pretending to be an airplane. Since her head was covered she didn't realize where she was and fell off the bed. When she jumped back up she said "The plane landed. "
He had his 4 month appointment yesterday. He is 16 lbs 6 oz (78%) and 25.5 inches long (72%). He is healthy as can be and the doctor was impressed with how strong he was and how well he could stand. At the appointment Ember was very concerned when they gave him his shots. She said "I don't want them to hurt my little brother". She really loves him as jealous as she may be of the attention he gets. She is starting to want him with her more and is concerned about where he is and what he is doing. It is cute. He is starting to drool and chew a lot so it seems like teeth might show up soon. He is also turning into quite a chatterbox. He seems to want to tall nonstop. One night when he was having a rough time going to sleep, I went in a dark room and held him for awhile. He coo-ed at me for about 5 minutes very intently then he nestles down and fell asleep. I guess he just needed someone to listen for a little bit. He is starting to like toys a little more and seems to like the fabric ones more than the plastic type. His eyes are still very blue and it seems like he will keep them. He is smiling and giggling now and has the cutest dimples. We love our little boy<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-83976612080498110592012-07-18T20:16:00.000-07:002012-07-19T20:22:02.653-07:00Projects and More

I have been keeping busy with a bunch of projects lately. I made this menu from an old mirror we had hanging on our bathroom door. I hated how the mirror made the door hard to close so I pulled it off, spray painted it with chalkboard paint and ordered vinyl lettering to add to it. I love how it turned out. I found the idea here.

I also made this skirt for Ember. I got the pattern here. It was pretty easy and I think it looks pretty cute.
I did a little photo shoot with this guy and actually got a few smiles. He is so much fun and seems to be pretty photogenic.

This little girl is not quite as photogenic but every bit as cute. I have to try pretty hard to get a good picture of her. She hates to stand still to get her picture taken and wants to look at the pictures right away. The best pictures are those when she doesn't realize I have a camera out, but then she isn't looking at me. Occasionally she will actually look at the camera for a split second if I am lucky.

Speaking of this little girl, she is getting to be quite opinionated and has quite a temper. I hope it is just a phase because it isn't much fun. When I picked her up from nursery yesterday the leaders told me, "She is going to be a drama queen isn't she?" Not quite what you want to hear from someone who has been watching your child for the last two hours. I was more than a little embarrassed.
She has decided that we are no longer allowed to call her Ember and she picks a different name every so often. Recently she has been Percy, the green train from Thomas and Friends. Before that she was Otto, a robot from a book we got at the library. She has been Mickey Mouse, Mater, and a bunch of other characters. You would think we watched a ton of TV, but we accidentally threw out the cord to hook our
TV up in the move and haven't bothered to replace it yet so we don't watch any. Occasionally we will put on a movie or let her watch something on YouTube. It is so funny how quickly she internalizes the characters she sees and becomes them. We will read a book once or twice and suddenly she is that person and is telling the story about them over and over. Everyone has been telling me not to discourage it since it is part of her imagination but I am wondering if there needs to be a limit since she goes into a fit if you call her the wrong name. I guess we need to work on being more polite. Maybe we should do something like she has to be Ember when we go out of the house or something. Anyone have any better ideas? I hate to discourage her creativity but I also don't think she should be allowed to throw a fit because someone called her the wrong name either.
Update-We have been making sure she gets a nap every day and that seems to have calmed down the tantrums a bit. She has had a little cold and has needed the extra sleep. She is much more pleasant to be around since.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-18882360002472547522012-07-16T19:42:00.000-07:002012-07-16T19:42:11.315-07:003 Months Old

Steele is now three months old and he couldn't be cuter. We are getting quite a few big smiles now and he seems to be happier than ever. He doesn't quite know how to grasp at things yet but he is much more interested in toys and his surroundings. He loves to stand on my lap still and is getting better and better at it.
He has been sleeping a ton lately so he must be going through a growing spurt. He gets so upset when he has to wait a few minutes for his food. It is positively hysterical. You would think it had been a week since he ate last, not 3 hours or so. Ember is getting more interested in him and this morning she came in and asked if she could give him a hug. She even rocked him for a bit when he was sitting on his chair. Admittedly, it was quite the wild ride for him, but I love that they are starting to interact more. He will stare at her very intently and that is about all so far. I am sure they will have fun together soon.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-62881367376414481162012-06-13T14:52:00.001-07:002012-06-13T14:52:44.917-07:00Two Months PlusSo Steele turned 2 months old last week. He is now 13 lbs 7 oz (87th percentile) and 23 inches tall (54th percentile). He is growing like a weed. He still wants to eat all the time and wakes up twice at night but he seems to be getting into a routine and things are settling down a little. He has been a pretty easy baby so far although he does like to be held a lot. He is getting to the point where we can just put him in his crib when he is tired and he will fall asleep-which is wonderful. He loves to have something soft on his cheek when he is going to sleep and will rub his face against his blanket to feel it. If he doesn't have a soft blanket he has a hard time sleeping. He has started smiling some and does a tiny bit of very soft babbling. His most recent discovery is his hands. You would think they were made of sugar by the way he sucks on them. They are de-lish. I love that he found them because often when he starts crying and I can't get there right away, he will find them and settle himself down. Hallelujah! We do love our little guy.<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-68858359005427393242012-06-02T12:55:00.001-07:002012-06-02T12:55:37.826-07:00EmberismsIt is time for another installment of Emberisms. There are some really fun ones this time so here goes.
For about a week every time she walked away she would turn around and remind me, "Don't forget to buckle your seat belt."

Lately she has been telling me about Dumbo, who is apparently a big bully. He steals her purse and knocks her off her bike. She will sometimes say that Dumbo won't get us.

She will often grab her purse and go to the store. Then she will run into her room. Sometimes she will say I am going to the candle and run in her room. She apparently has a giant candle in her room that she will blow out.

Ember insists on saying every prayer. It is almost always the same one (I didn't teach it to her, she must have picked it up on her own). For awhile we would ask who should say the prayer and she would reply "Me, this girl, Ember." then proceed to say the prayer without any further comment.

"Pee pee and poop play in the potty." (toilet paper does too on occasion).

Josh and I were talking in the kitchen and she came in and said, "Behold, Mommy and Daddy." We about fell over laughing.

Ember: Ah we an ooh me a ne
Me: What are you singing?
Ember: A love song.

"I am going to grow up and be 3 like mommy is 3."

Me: What comes after twelve?
Ember: Three-teen.

"I am upset. I need to go lay down."

"Mommy is a good woman." (Thanks Ember, I appreciate it, I just wonder where you got that little tidbit of knowledge from)

She has started to speak in storybook voice. I hope that doesn't mean we read too much. She will often speak for her toys as you would read from a book. For example: "Look a bath, the bear cried. It leaped in the bath."

When we were visiting my Mom, she came inside and announced, "The outside made me angry."

I was talking with a friend of mine and Ember came up by us. My friend asked her "How are you, honey?" She looked offended and said, "I'm not honey." Then later she came up and started calling my friend "Honey"

Occasionally Ember will put herself down for a nap if she is tired. One day she said she was going to bed and went into her room. We heard her say her prayers and crawl in. It was pretty cute. She also sometimes puts her toys to bed and says prayers for them.

I was eating something and Ember came into the room and asked "Can I have a bite?" I gave her one then she came back and asked, "Can I have another bite?" immediately after she asked, "Can I have all the bites?"

After a big fall - we were waiting for the crying to start and she stood up and in a matter-of-fact voice said, "I guess there isn't no oww-y."

She ran into our bedroom and in a very excited voice said, "I have hands!"

One day she asked Josh in a very sad voice, "Why do I matter to you?"I felt so bad. Josh reassured her that he loves her and that she really does matter to him.

She is turning into a very good big sister. Today Steele was crying and Ember said, "Steele is sad, we should go sing to him."

Yesterday we went to Walmart and bought groceries then we picked out some new pajamas for Ember and looked at swimsuits for Steele. Then we went to get some storage boxes for Josh. When we were finished, Ember turned to me and asked, "What are we going to buy for you, Mommy?" It was awfully sweet of her to think of me. I might have teared up a little bit. She has such a good heart. I do love my little girl.
We have done a little bit of exploring recently and have found some gems in OK. This is the Tulsa Driller, he is a 100 ft tall icon of the oil industry located on the fairgrounds. You would think that a 100 ft tall man would be easy to find, but we drove around the fairgrounds for quite awhile before we spotted him. Ember had fun climbing on his shoe but seemed a little confused about why we came to see him.

Nobody else was around so we couldn't get a real family photo so we made due with a shot of the girls and one of the boys.

Our next stop was Oral Roberts University and the praying hands. It is amazing how big they really are when you see them in person. The architecture at Oral Roberts is really neat too, but I didn't take any pictures of it.
Next stop...Walmart. No pictures taken there but I am sure you could imagine the scenery. Three stops with two kids under 3 is plenty for us. They were about spent by that time and everyone was ready for lunch. We will do more exploring another day.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09301164135280484011noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2997992130388918594.post-78958471859190425942012-04-11T12:27:00.001-07:002012-04-11T12:27:58.766-07:00Welcome Baby Steele

He has finally arrived! Steele Victor was born on April 5th at 2:25 pm. He was 8 lbs 10 oz and 21 inches long. He has a full head of hair and is quite handsome. I was induced that day and the doctor thought he would come a lot sooner than he did. He took his time showing up and there was a short period when we thought I would have to have a cesarean. He finally decided to come though and was much bigger than anyone thought he would be. I had only gained 16 lbs through the pregnancy with having a few illnesses and so I figured he would be a bit smaller than Ember was (they were the same weight at birth). He had a little difficulty breathing at first so they had to give him some oxygen immediately but he was fine shortly after and hasn't had any problems since. His middle name is after his grandfather on Josh's side and his first name is just because we really like it. We have noticed that people either love or hate it when we tell them what we named him. I came home from the hospital on Saturday and have been adjusting to life with two kids. My mom was here to help for a couple of days but now I am on my own and it is definitely a lot more work, although the 2nd child is so much easier than the first because there are so many things that don't bother you as much, like a little bit of crying. I am much more relaxed the second time around. Here are some pictures of our little guy. We love having him!
